Overview of NASA's Four Projects

Hinode (Formally Solar-B)

The picture at left is an artists view of the Hinode spacecraft. An excellent video pod cast gives an excellent overview.

Solar Dynamics Observatory

The picture at right shows a computer aided drawing of the satellite. An overview of the mission and the goals of the project can be found in the following link.

STERO

In the picture at left you can see an artists illustration of one of the STERO satellites. Just like its name implies the STERO satellite is one of two identical satellites orbiting with Earth as they make a 3D view of the sun. For more information check out the mission link.

IMAGE

The IMAGE satellite is part of NASA's outreach program POETRY. The link that is available has some common questions and answers that relate to Earth's magnetic field.

Earth Science
Plate tectonics
Magnetic Field
Destination Earth Is a link to how NASA is relating space science to Earth science.
Plate tectonics Is a link to the geology of how Earth's plates are in motion.
Sea Floor Spreading A record of Earth's magnetic field is locked in Earth's crust at plates that are spreading apart in the Atlantic Ocean.

Sea Floor Spreading A pictorial explanation of plate tectonics and the magnetic record.
Earth's Magnetic Field An overview of Earth's magnetosphere.

The Magnetosphere The space around the Earth occupied by the Earth's magnetic field that protects us from the sun.
Using the information on this page come up with some questions that you could ask scientists for the March 20th pod cast.
