Lesson 4a

Description:

In this activity you will review what you have learned about weather before taking the computer test. Make sure you are familiar with the following vocabulary or terms:

1.
Storm Systems

  • Ingredients for the formation of a thunderstorm.
  • Parts of a hurricane.
2.
Cloud Formation

  • Condensation, evaporation, and precipitation.
  • Stratus, cummulus, cirrus, and nimbus
3.
Forecasting

  • High and low pressure systems.
  • Thermometer, barometer, anemometer, and hygrometer.
  • Cold front, warm front, stationary fronts, and occluded fronts.
4.
Climate vs Weather

For a more in depth review of what you should have learned check out the outline/review for this unit

So once you have studied the above listed areas you will be ready for the online test in Apex.

After watching the applet go to the discussion page to answer two questions relating to what you have just witnessed. Take the time to look at some of your classmates and feel free to respond to any of your classmates.

Going Further

The following links are places you can go to learn more and go more in depth on the content standards and content objectives.

Content Objective:
1. Phase Changes of Water-Water can be in three phases solid, liquid, and gas, the process in which water changes phases are called evaporation, sublimation, condensation, and precipitation.
2.
Fresh water and Ground water-Compare the paths of fresh water and ground water.
  3.
Earth's Oceans-Is a complex system of fresh water, salt water, warm water, and cold water that transports heat energy around the Earth.

  4.
Outside Forces on Earth's Oceans-Are caused by the gravitational pull of the sun and moon.

  5.
Wave Properties-Wave's are a method of transporting energy. The parts of a wave include: amplitude, crest, trough, wave speed, and frequency.

  6.
Climate affects caused by the Ocean-Our climate is affected by weather patterns such as El Niño and La Niña.

Language Objective:
1.
Students will be tested on how water affects our lives in every facet.
2.
Students will be tested on where we interact with water.
  3. Students will do a lab on the density of water vs temperature.
  4. Students will be tested on properties of waves and ocean properties.
