Lesson 5a

Description:

In this activity you will review material before taking the test. Some of the areas you need to study are.

1.
Learning the different fields of Earth science which are:

  • Astronomy
  • Geology
  • Hydrology
  • Meteorology
2.
Learn the scientific method used by scientists to learn about the Earth.

  • Remember early scientist used observations to make predictions.
  • Remember early tools of scientist like the sextant.
3.
Discover how to read maps and learn how scientists use them.

  • Know the different types of maps.
  • Know what information that maps measure.
  • Know the limitations of maps.
4.
Recognize major process of Earth science:

  • Conduction, Convection, and Radiation for Energy Transfer.
  • The rock cycle goes from sedimentary, metamorphic, to igneous as you increase pressure and temperature.
  • How to calculate density and the density of water.

So once you have studied the above listed areas you will be ready for the online test in Apex.

In the picture at right you can see some of the major areas of study that we have covered. From the big bang, to planet formation, to how our solar system looks to how the Earth fits into the big picture. So go back and check out some of the links that have been provided and get ready for that test.

Going Further

The following links are places you can go to learn more and go more in depth on the content standards and content objectives.

Content Objective:
1. Big Bang Theory-Explains the formation of the universe.
2.
Nuclear Fusion-The process that fuels our stars and creates heaveir elements out of lighter ones.
  3.
Life Cycle of Stars-The life of stars as they change from one kind of star to another.

  4.
Formation of Planets -The theory of planet formation.

  5. Rotation vs Revolution-Describes the motion of the Earth around the sun.
  6. Spring Tides vs NeapTides-The positioning of the moon relative to the Earth and Sun.
  7.
