Lesson 3a

(Under Construction)

Do Not Do

Description:

In this activity you will review material before taking the test. Some of the areas you need to study are:

1.
Learning the different fields of Earth science which are:

  • Astronomy
  • Geology
  • Hydrology
  • Meteorology
2.
Learn the scientific method used by scientists to learn about the Earth.

  • Remember early scientist used observations to make predictions.
  • Remember early tools of scientist like the sextant.
3.
Discover how to read maps and learn how scientists use them.

  • Know the different types of maps.
  • Know what information that maps measure.
  • Know the limitations of maps.
4.
Recognize major process of Earth science:

  • Conduction, Convection, and Radiation for Energy Transfer.
  • The rock cycle goes from sedimentary, metamorphic, to igneous as you increase pressure and temperature.
  • How to calculate density and the density of water.

So once you have studied the above listed areas you will be ready for the online test in Apex. As you can see at the picture in the lower right remember the different types of study for Earth science.

You can think of the areas as layers surrounding the Earth from deep space to the Earth's atmosphere, the crust of the Earth, to the molten rock of the Earth's interior. As we study Earth science we need to know basic principals like density and the scientific method. Finally Earth science is about process such as how energy is transfered in convection currents.

Going Further

The following links are places you can go to learn more and go more in depth on the content standards and content objectives.

Content Objective:
1. Earth Science-A study of the Earth from outer space, our atmosphere, to were we live, to the process underneath our feet.
  2. The scientific method-An analytical method to observing and testing the world we live in.
  3. Cartography-Learn about the science of mapmaking.
4.
Earth Processes-Learn about the science of mapmaking.
Language Objective:
1.
Students will be tested what they learned in this unit of Earth science.
  2. Students will be complete a review to check for understanding of what they have done.
