Information/FAQs about Oregon Online


Who may take classes?

Students through age 21 who have not yet graduated from high school may be eligible for Oregon Online courses, please see your school counselor. Also, check out our Hardware Page for information on the type of computer necessary to be successful.

What courses are available?

Oregon Online currently offers over 50 courses for both high school and middle school students. All high school core courses (Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Math) plus Art, Foreign Languages, and some other electives are currently available. Go to the course list for current information. Students can take either first or second semester courses during any of the three semesters (Fall, Winter, and Summer).

Will my high school accept credit for Online courses?

All Oregon Online classes are nationally accredited by AdvancED and are accepted by most schools for credit. You will need to check with your home high school to see how they will place that credit on your transcript. We will be happy to help; please contact us.

What is the cost of Oregon Online?

For public school students within the Southern Oregon Education Service District area (Jackson, Josephine, and Klamath counties in participating districts) the cost is $120 per course per semester for the 2016-2017 school year. Some school districts require students to pay for their own course; others require a deposit; yet others pay the entire cost. A list of contact persons is available to help you contact the person at your school district who can assist you further.

For students enrolled in public schools in Oregon, outside ofthe SOESD region, the cost for Oregon Online courses for the 2016-2017 academic year is $270 per course per semester. For out-of-state students, homeschooled or private school students the cost is $310 per semester per course..

When do I register for courses?

Oregon Online generally follows school schedules and has three terms: Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer. See the chart below for important dates for the 2016-2017 school year:

How much time do I have to complete a course?

Oregon Online generally follows local school semester schedules. However, arrangements may be made with instructors for extensions (see Extension Policy) or special circumstances (trimester student, quarter grades, moving, illness, etc.). Keep in mind that the later in a semester that a student begins, the less time they have to complete the course by the end of the traditional semester break. Please contact us if you have questions.

Can I take a course for pass/no pass?

Most classes are available on a pass/no pass basis, but it is wise to check with your resident school to learn of their grading and graduation requirements..

May I enroll in an online course mid-semester?

Oregon Online has standard registration deadlines.

Under special circumstances we can start a student in a course at other times. If you need more information, please contact our office.

What kind of computers are required?

In order to make students' online experience a positive one, we suggest a fairly new computer with optimal soft and hardware configurations. In addition, visiting our Plugins Test Page will provide students access to all the special (and free) applications often required by online providers. In some cases a specific browser may be required.

What type of support does Oregon Online provide?

Oregon Online has a toll-free number (800.636.7453) that students and parents may call during business hours (7:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday; 7 AM - 4 PM in summer beginning June 20, 2016) for registration, administrative, and business questions. We also have a web-based email contact form for when you're away from your own computer (e.g. the library) and wish to contact us. If our office staff cannot help solve the technical issue you are experiencing, you will be referred to our Help Desk.

How do students register?

Students interested in registering for Oregon Online classes should first contact their local school district (see admissions information for a contact person near you) or may call our toll-free number 1.800.636.7453 during normal business hours (7:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday; 7 AM - 4 PM in summer beginning June 20, 2016).

What if my school isn't a member of Oregon Online or doesn't want to sign me up for courses?

Call us. We would be happy to speak with your school's administrator on your behalf.

What if the student lives outside of Oregon?

Students living outside Oregon must register by phone. Please call us for more information.
