Information about Oregon Online
Students through age 21 who have not yet graduated from high school may be eligible for Oregon Online courses. Check out our Hardware Page for information on the type of computer necessary to be successful. Oregon Online currently offers over 70 regular and credit retrieval courses. High school courses in Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Math, Art, Foreign Languages, and some electives are currently available (AP and middle school courses are continually being developed). Go to the Courses link at the top of the page for current information. During the Fall semester students can take first semester regular education and either first or second semester credit retrieval courses. During Winter/Spring students may take first or second semester courses in both regular education and credit retrieval. Will my high school accept credit for Online courses? All Oregon online classes are nationally accredited and can be transferred to any high school for credit. You will need to check with your home high school to see how they will place that credit on your transcript. What is the cost of Oregon Online? The cost for Oregon Online courses for the 2009-2010 academic year is $265 per course per semester for Oregon residents. ($305 for out-of-state students). However, schools within the Southern Oregon Education Service District area (Jackson, Josephine, and Klamath counties) receive a considerable discount. Some school districts require students to pay for their own course; others require a deposit; yet others pay the entire cost. A list of contact persons is available ontact your resident school district closest to you to find out the cost as well as the procedures to enroll. Please direct questions to the Oregon Online Registrar at o2registrar@soesd.k12.or.us or call 541.776.6768 or 800.636.7453. When do I register for courses? Registration begins in May for fall semester and for summer school, and in December for Winter/Spring semester. For regular education courses, registration closes the end of October for Fall semester, and closes in March for Winter/Spring semester. How much time do I have to complete a course? Oregon Online has standard semester schedules. However, arrangements may be made with instructors for extensions or special circumstances (trimester student, quarter grades, moving, illness, etc...). Keep in mind that the later in a semester that a student begins, the less time they have to complete the course by the end of the traditional semester break. Can I take a course for pass/no pass? Oregon Online offers credit retrieval courses that allow you to take courses and receive a "Pass/No Pass" rather than a grade. Each school may have other grading requirements. May I enroll in an online course mid-semester? Oregon Online has standard registration deadlines (see our current calendar). Credit Retrieval classes have an ongoing registration, however, with no deadlines. What kind of computers are required? In order to make your online experience a positive one, we suggest a somewhat contemporary computer with optimal soft and hardware configurations. In addition, visiting our Plugins Test Page will provide you access to all the special (and free) applications often required by online providers. In some cases a specific browser may be required. What type of support does Oregon Online provide? Oregon Online has a 24-hour help desk for tech support. All our contact information is maintained online.
