Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Any person of K-12 school age who has not yet graduated may sign up for classes. Oregon Online currently offers over 70 regular and credit retrieval courses. High school courses in Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Math, Art, Foreign Languages, and some electives are currently available; some Middle School courses are also available. Generally, students can take first semester courses during Fall term, and either first or second semester courses during Winter term. Most, but not all, courses are available during the abbreviated/condensed Summer session (9 weeks instead of 18 weeks). Please contact us if you have questions regarding course availability. Will my high school accept credit for online courses? All Oregon Online high school classes are accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools, and are accepted by most schools for credit. You will need to check with your home high school to see how they will place that credit on your transcript. What is the cost of Oregon Online? Oregon Online charges $260 per course per semester; students from outside Oregon are charged $300 per semester course. However, students attending schools within the Southern Oregon ESD three-county region (Jackson, Josephine, and Klamath counties) receive a considerable discount. Some school districts require students to pay for their own course; others require a deposit; others pay the entire cost. Contact your resident school district to find out the cost as well as the procedures to enroll. Please direct questions to the Oregon Online Registrar at o2registrar@soesd.k12.or.us or call 541.776.6768 or 800.636.7453. When do I register for courses? Registration begins in May for for summer school, in August for Fall, and in January for Winter/Spring semester. For regular education courses, registration closes the end of September for Fall semester, the end of February for Winter/Spring semester, and at the end of June for Summer session. Please contact the Oregon Online registrar for questions concerning registration for credit retrieval courses. How much time do I have to complete a course? Oregon Online generally follows standard semester schedules for schools in Southern Oregon. Occasionally, arrangements may be made with instructors for extensions or special circumstances (trimester student, quarter grades, moving, illness, etc.) Keep in mind that the later in a semester that a student begins, the less time there is to complete the course by the end of the traditional semester break. Can I take a course for pass/no pass? Most classes are available on a pass/no pass basis, but it is wise to check with your home school to learn of their grading requirements. May I enroll in an online course mid-semester? Oregon Online has standard registration deadlines (see our school calendar ). Credit Retrieval classes usually have extended registration dates - please check with the o2 registrar. What kind of computers are required? In order to make your online experience a positive one, we suggest a somewhat contemporary computer with optimal software and hardware configurations. In addition, visiting our Plugins Test Page will provide you access to all the special (and free) applications often required by online providers. In some cases a specific browser may be required. What type of support does Oregon Online provide? Oregon Online has a 24-hour help desk for tech support. All our contact information is maintained online. We have listed a toll-free number that students and parents may call during business hours (8 AM - 4:30 PM Monday through Friday; 7 AM - 4 PM during summer) for registration, administrative, and business questions.
